Welcome to Hopkins County, founded in March 1846 from parts of Nacogdoches and Lamar counties by the newly created state of Texas Legislature. Our county was named for the Hopkins family, which was one of the earliest pioneer families to move into this area that was inhabited by Indians, wild buffaloes and open range.

 Over the past fifty years, Hopkins County has evolved as one of the leading counties in Texas for dairy and poultry farming industries and other agribusiness, and for its positive atmosphere for development of new retail and commercial industrial expansion.
