2008 Chamber of Commerce Banquet

The annual "Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet" is held in late January or early February each year. This annual membership event is usually attended by over 800 local citizens who enjoy a meal, program and presentation of awards to local citizens for their contributions to the community.

2008 Citizen of the Year - Joe Minter

Awards recipients include "Citizen of the Year" presented by Echo Publishing Company, "Vision Award" presented by the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, "Lady of the Year" award presented by Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Agriculturist of the Year", presented by the Professional Ag Workers Committee, "Community Pride Awards" presented by the Adult Leadership Sulphur Springs class, "Outgoing Directors" awards and "Ambassador of the Year" award presented by the Chamber.

Lady of the Year - Rita Edwards (left) is overcome with joy when she receives the award from Shirley Burney (right) representing Beta Sigma Phi. Edwards was recognized for her many efforts working with different groups to promote the city and the downtown revitalization.

	Industry of the Year - Wal-Mart, Stan Francis
	Sandi Wallace, owner of Plain & Fancy Sandwich Shoppe, was ecstatic when awarded Small Business of the Year presented by Helen McDaniel, representing last year's winner, Community Bank (now Pilgrim Bank)

	Educator of the Year - Katie Martin
	All of Jackie Thornton's efforts did not go unnoticed last night when she was given the Ambassador of the Year award by Carolyn McKinney, president of Chamber Ambassarors.
