The Saturday before the 4th of July is the date for the annual "Independence Day Symphony Concert" provided by the Sulphur Springs Symphony League and underwritten by Alliance Bank.

Begun in 1991, this annual event hosts thousands of local and out-of-town visitors to the downtown square for a "Norman Rockwell" evening of Patriotic Music provided by the 55-piece Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Doug Bakenhaus. In the shadow of the historic Hopkins County Courthouse, rousing Sousa marches, popular show tunes and the finale --- "Stars & Stripes Forever" create a true patriotic fervor among those attending as the huge fireworks display, provided by Sulphur Springs Vision Center explodes overhead.

There is no charge for the concert and concessions are available. Lawn chairs are recommended.
