high school

Sulphur Springs High School, located at 1200 Connally Street was opened at the beginning of the 1978-1979 school year. Since then, numerous facilities have been added, including science classrooms, a practice gym, an agriculture lab and an athletic facility.

In 2007, the campus saw major renovations that expanded science labs and other instructional space and created a new fine arts center for arts, music and theater classes. And this summer, the new athletic track should be completed.

SSHS offers a comprehensive curriculum of required and elective courses. Students are paced according to academic, advanced academic, honors, vocational and fine arts programs. Vocational courses in health science technology, agriculture, horticulture, homemaking, drafting, computer science, office skills and work-study programs complement the strong academic programs that are offered. Annually, many students earn scholarships to advance their educational efforts after graduation.

The school has an outstanding record in University Interscholastic League academic, with several first place winners at the state meet in recent years. Students are also involved and successful in for the first time in the history of SSHS, the football team won the Class 4A Division 2 State Championship at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Just one example of the excellent extracurricular programs available at SSHS.

Vocational activities and related contests, music programs, drill team contests and other extracurricular activities. A comprehensive athletic program is available to students who desire to participate in sports.

In 2008, not only did the Sulphur Springs Football team defeat Wichita Falls in a nationally televised game on ESPN, but went on to win the 4A State Championship.
